Meet Kim: Poverty Education Director

Kim Starks joined Access’ team in August as our Poverty Education Director. She jumped right in and already has been a part of multiple workshops across Kent County and beyond!  Kim is an upbeat, passionate team member who comes with a background in the financial service industry and experience as a ministry trainer. She loves to connect with people, and is thrilled to be in this role where she can help others understand the impact poverty has in our community and the steps we can take to make a difference.

The Poverty Education Workshops inform participants about the intricate realities of life in poverty. The workshop is designed to provide insight into the barriers faced by low-income individuals through role-playing the lives of various family types experiencing poverty. It also creates economic development opportunities for those living in poverty by employing staffers who have firsthand experience of poverty, as well as providing education and advocacy opportunities for over 1,000 participants each year.

“I love new challenges,” Kim says with a smile. Kim is thankful to have a role in eradicating poverty in our community. She loves seeing people thrive and move up to the next level in life. She is looking forward to working alongside Poverty Education Workshop staff members as they work together to build awareness throughout our community.

If you’re interested in learning more about the Poverty Education Workshop or hosting one at your company, school, church, or organization, don’t hesitate to contact Kim at kim@accessofwestmichigan.org. Do you know an organization that should have one? Send Kim their info as well.

She’s looking forward to connecting with you!
