Suggested List of Food for Providing a Holiday Meal through the Holiday Giving Network
Provide, at a minimum, for complete dinner (approximate cost is ~ $50):
- Meat - turkey*, ham, or chicken
- Potatoes, (fresh, boxed, or canned,) rice or pasta
- Vegetables - canned, fresh, or frozen
- Fruit - canned or fresh
- Bread/Rolls
- Butter/Margarine
- Dessert - frozen, cake mix, pie mix and filling, or whipped topping
- Gravy, stuffing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pickles or olives
Additional suggestions that you might want to include:
- Beverage - juice, coffee, tea, milk
- Salad fixings and dressing Pasta products
- Soup, Jello and Pudding
- Dry Milk Sugar
- Eggs Cereal
- Peanut Butter
- Personal Care Items - soap, shampoo, toilet paper, toothpaste, laundry detergent, dish soap, 9V batteries (to be used in smoke detectors) etc.
*Please consider: There are people who may not know how or may not have the appropriate cooking facilities to prepare a turkey. Singles and/or elderly may not be able to use a whole turkey. Chicken, ham, turkey breasts, or turkey rolls may be more viable options (feel free to ask the family for their preference). Please, never include any homemade items - for safety reasons!
