Jesus challenged us with the mission to Love Your Neighbor as Yourself. But can we take this further to seek out someone who may not love themselves enough to love their neighbor? Many in our community are struggling with having to learn how to live, how to parent, how to succeed on their own as they have lost their models, or in some cases, never had a stable model. I truly believe that in order for us to make a long lasting difference in someone’s life, and at the same time, in our community, we need to offer ourselves to walk alongside of another. One on one mentoring is an opportunity to support someone who may not be aware that they are able to achieve whatever they set out to do…..they just didn’t have anyone to cheer them on. If one is able to face challenges surrounded with positive support, there is no limit to the possibilities. Being a mentor sounds like a daunting assignment….but so is anything you aren’t given the tools for. But what if someone was to give you those tools, to tell you about their experience as a mentor, and to share all the different ways you can become involved? ACCESS OSM is offering a Mentoring Tips Workshop on Tuesday, April 28th from 7-9pm. (RSVP today 774-2175) I guarantee that you will recognize that you too can make a difference in the life of a child, of a family, of a single parent, of an ex-offender and more. These are our neighbors. Shame on us for not sharing God’s love with them.
